How income tax works in South Africa

SARS taxes income on a sliding scale from 18% to 45%. Everyone gets a primary rebate that comes off the tax bill, and people over 65 and over 75 get extra rebates, so low earners pay nothing.

What is UIF?

The Unemployment Insurance Fund takes 1% of your salary, up to a maximum of R177.12 a month. Your employer pays in the same amount again.

This calculator doesn't include medical aid credits, pension fund contributions or other deductions.
